Workshops :: Electric Kiln 101

Electric Kilns
Electric Kiln 101 Workshop: Saturday, April 19, 2008 (10 a.m. - 6 p.m.)

This 1-day $50 workshop focused on the basic operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of common problems when working with electric kilns.  Cone 6 glazing techniques and glazes were included (yes, I shared my recipes).

Many potters have found themselves stymied by the jumble of wires n the metal boxes of their kiln.  My mission was to help you avoid the expense of calling someone in-if you just can't get the temperature.

Students had to come prepared with cone 6 bisque for test.  It was recommended to throw a deep bottomless ring, one with white clay and one brown.  Andrew usually adds texture with a stamp then waits until leather hard.  Carefully cut into freestanding sections.  You may want to drill a hole in each for stringing/display.  Bring a couple of small pots as well.
